■ Choggia beetroot is a beautiful Italian variety, also called Basano.
■ Especially suitable for early cultivation.
■ A round, smooth and pale red beet, whose pretty flesh (white with pink rings) is deliciously sweet and mild in flavour.
■ Raw or al dente a fine product.
■ Sow in a sunny spot in well-fertilised soil.
■ When the plants are 3 cm high, thin out to about 10 cm.
■ Chioggia is reasonably storable.
